Mayweather vs McGregor Is A Farce

So finally it’s happened, the boxing casual’s have got there wish ,49-0 Floyd Mayweather has agreed to come out of retirement to take on zero fight novice Conner McGregor at the  MGM in Las Vegas as the rumours go ,in what can only be described as a blatant cash grab .

For years boxing has tried to shake off the legacy Floyd left

As we have said on this blog numerous times in the past six months, 2017 has been an unbelievable year for boxing fans. For years boxing has tried to shake off the legacy Floyd left,a legacy of outrageous demand’s , crazy catchweighs and this silly notion of letting fights “marinate” rather than fight the best at there best for the fans. This fight is no different , after struggling through years of mainly shit fights at the top-level , boxing is coming back to the masses , bringing fans back to boxing that had jumped to UFC

” The fact that this fight can actually happen is what we Scots call a ” brass neck”

Boxing has never been the most honest of sports, from being influenced by the likes of the New York mafia in the old days, to the more recent times we have the matchroom mafia bringing the sport into disrepute, this is another case of “money talks” and that suites “The Money Team”   . The fact that this fight can actually happen is what we’re Scots call a ” brass neck” ,it’s shameless .We don’t see badminton champions claiming out Roger Federer ,so why anyone could try and justify this fight is beyond me.

stop letting these thieves and con men take our money

The UK is inline to see eight PPV event’s this year and roumours are circulating this Floyd/McGregor fight could be as much as £50 , if true would be outrageous and I would urge anyone to join team stream and stop letting these thieves and con men take our money

PS: @SatplexUK = Team Stream

Kovalev vs Ward II :Preview and Prediction

With 2017 being one of the best years for boxing in a long time we are about to be treated to another fantastic matchup , no I’m not talking about Paul Smith vs Tyron Zeuge, I’m talking about Andre Ward vs Sergy Kovalev II .

Since Andre Ward’s  contriversial points win in November to take the Russians titles  , Kovalev and his team have been on the offensive in the build up to this one. When i first seen some of the comments Kovalev was making i thought “He’s trying psych Ward out” but now i genuinely believe he is out to really hurt Ward .

Sergey Kovalev “I don’t have a prediction. I just have one goal to beat Andre Ward and beat all the s— from him because he doesn’t deserve the belt and the status of a champion. I want to put him back in his place.”

Now to a mere man like myself, I would be fucking shitting myself to go in the ring with Kovalev after seeing this , but Andre Ward is no normal man. Ever since the first fight Kovalev vigorously disputed the cards, and for me he has let that turn to hate , there have even been allegations of racist comments toward Ward which i won’t go into . This hatred can go one of two ways for Kovalev, the hate might bring out a performance like Frazier/Ali I, if that hate can be focussed there is every chance he could become a killing machine when doubled with his frightening power , or we could see the hate manifest like it did when Tyson took on Holyfeild and result in Ward picking him off and humiliating the big Russian.

Andre Ward is the superstar that never was , a man who gets nowhere near the credit he is due . Ward’s life has everything a great story needs, from a very hard upbringing with drug addict parents, to Olympian ,to now one of the best P4P fighters in the world ,so why isn’t he a household name ? . Well to be fair Ward looks like a difficult person to deal with,he is also very paranoid about the media ,with good cause . This makes Ward a bit of a hit or a miss with fans . Ward again as he did in the first fight has done very little to promote this grudge match ,which leaves all the soundbites for Sergy Kovalev to fill , which in turn wins the Russian more fans but leaves Ward like a forgotten man, well until fight night at least . All Wards personality comes out in the ring, he really is a master at taking your strength away from you , for him to just pick you off . Watching Andre Ward in the ring isn’t like watching any ordinery boxer. Ward turns the fight into a game chess, where every move must be thought out well in advance .

Andre Ward on fight “I think the first fight was a great fight. I think there was a lot of drama in the first fight, more drama than I wanted,” said Ward. “I think it was a tremendous fight and I believe, round two is going to be a tremendous fight.”

Prediction :

This fight boils down to Aggression/Power vs Skill/Ringcraft , Can Kovalev set out to hurt Ward without being exploited ? , I really don’t think so . Nobody has ever solved the equation of how beat Ward but i doubt its with brute force and anger , chances are Ward will take Kovalev’s aggression and ill temper and use it against him . Kovalev has fantastic power which sent Ward to the canvas in the first fight, he has that one punch power and a fantastic jab, so he has every chance of beating Ward. Who’s my pick ? ….i will say Andre Ward on points, i just feel Ward knows what to expect this time and will look to nullify Kovalev early , i also still have doubts about Kovalev’s gas tank .

The People vs Paul Smith, Eddie Hearn and Gilberto Mendoza

The good people of the jury, I intend to prove beyond all reasonable doubt, that the three accused are bringing the good name of Boxing into disrepute through what can only be described as corruption, blackmail, bullying and down right fascisim .

I will start presenting my case with Paul “The Unworthy” Smith . This man is in line to fight for the WBA Super Middleweight Title (Regular) by doing nothing of any relevence since taking on Andre Ward in 2015. Even then, Smith missed the 172lbs catchweight by a massive 4.4lbs, drawing P4P superstar Ward to call him “unprofessional”. Not that it made any difference of course, as Andre Ward took him to Skool before stopping him. Since then, Paul Smith has had 3 fights (sorry not just three fights but three 6 round fights) with his opponents, having combined losses of just 68, and Smith still managed to take one of those fights to the scorecards (recompose after laughter). To me and most other people, Paul Smith is a domestic level fighter. This is not an insult, in fact Paul Smith WAS a really good domestic level boxer, but the pinnacle of his career was in the 2014 Title fight against Arthur Abraham. He put in a good account of himself and lost the fight on the cards but since then had been in rapid decline until a few weeks ago, when the most remarkable thing happened .

Now lets have a look at Mendoza and the WBA’s role in this crime. Whilst I was on the WBA website, seeing how high a good friend of ours David Brophy was ranked at Super Middleweight, after David went to Australia and stopped Zac Dunn (a top 10 ranked guy with 4 governing bodies) there it was staring me back in the face ……No5 Paul Smith? Two places above No7 Arthur Abraham, five places above commonwealth champion No10 David Brophy. Now ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I know what you must be thinking “its obviously been a mistake” as I thought this myself “how can a guy who’s done nothing in years be ranked so high?”. In this digital age, you may even have thought that the WBA had been hacked and this was a hilarious prank by some cyber geek (again this had also crossed my mind). Fast Forward a few days and ALL becomes clear from this cloud of corruption. Whilst going through my timeline on twitter, I see the news has been dropped

“Super Middleweight Champion Tyrone Zeuge will take on Paul Smith jnr”

Now usually with things this shitty in boxing, you get angry, then that turns to laughter. Not this time. After seeing this, the anger turned to rage . Seeing what guys like David Brophy go through to get ranked, in the hope that one day the phone will ring with an offer to go fight for a World Title. For all the sacrifices made in and out the gym to not only go unnoticed but actually treated with contempt by a Governing body and there President, by giving Paul Smith his third shot a title. Now it has took me so long to bring this case against the WBA as Mendoza had said on Twitter that the WBA where going to review this fight. I had hoped a bit of sense and fairness would come through in the end, but then Mendoza’s twitter went cold. He’s not only ignoring the 1000’s of tweets asking about this fight , but he actually took to mocking fans of the sport by quoting there tweets and calling them “bitches” (paraphrasing there) .

Now that takes me on nicely to Mr Eddie “Adolf” Hearn , who may be last up in my case  but he is certainly the mastermind behind this racket. Mr Hearn is the leader of one the five families of boxing (the other 4 being WBA,WBO,WBC and IBF) who’s power and reach should not be underestimated. If you are not a boxing fan you might not have even heard of this fight, that is because the mainstream boxing/sports media dare not speak up against Hearn or Matchroom. You can say what you want about Eddie but he does put on some of the biggest sporting events in the UK today, and thats his biggest weapon . If the media speak out against Hearn he does have the power to ban them from these shows and there build ups, which is usually are events in themselves . He treats the press like dogs. They do something for him they get a treat, they do something against him they get punished . Eddie Hearn does have one major flaw that this fight has exposed over the past few weeks and thats that he cannot accept any sort of criticism. On Hearn’s last IFL he went on a half hour rant about Tommy “Guru” Allan and Brian King, personally attacking both because they asked co-accused  Gilberto Mendoza to justify Smiths ranking . Then it was my turn, Adolf Hearn had tweeted “anything is possible” and I replied “Paul Smith fighting for a title proves that’. He then went on the attack about how I am a “shit journalist” (for the record I don’t break the news I comment on it, that makes me a commentator) and even after I baited him with Paul Smith name and credentials, he didn’t come forward to his defence. I guess even the mighty Eddie Hearn can’t sell this one to the British public .

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, in the court of public opinion, I feel I have put forward the most compelling case …..how do you find the defendent ?

Below i would like to enter Exhibits A,B,C,D as evidence)

It Might Be Harsh, But It’s A Quit

Since i was a young lad I’ve always looked at the top boxers in the world as superhumans , watching guys like Evander Holyfield fight Riddick Bowe in amazement, wondering to myself  “How can these guys still be standing” ,also  every boxing fan who’s worth there salt loves Ward/Gatti , Barrera/Morales and more recently Salido/Vargas . These guys put everything on the line, for them quitting was not an option, sorry , it is an option but its not one they would consider . Now as harsh as it sounds ,i think you have to say Kell Brook quit ,to say otherwise disrespects what what these other warriors stand for .

It was not worth “Risk v Reward” ,which i will not have a go at him for.

Now I’m not going to sit here and say “I would have fought on” infact the opposite is true , a soon as i suspected there was a serious problem, i would have stopped . Brook fought on , but with the fight getting away from him due to Spence’s energy sapping shots and Brooks eye swelling up , Brook decided with a suspected broken orbital bone , that it was not worth “Risk v Reward” which is fine, infact  i thought Bellew’s comments after the fight where a bit much as every man has his limits .

Am i saying Brook is like Nick Walters, no chance.

Since the fight has ended i do have a problem with the lack of respect from some fans for the guys who would put there life on the line rather than quit . If you think this way ask yourself this , If Brook thought he was well ahead of Spence , would he have quit ? …would he fuck . These other people, like Brooks trainer calling it an injury and trying to devalue Spence’s performance  , sorry i don’t accept that, Brook did not twist his ankle or pull a hamstring , sustained punishement from Spence broke the bone then made Brooks mind up that he could not continue . As i have said i grew up looking at boxers as superhumans ,we all love guys like Smoking Joe Frazier, who fought some of the all time great heavyweight whilst being blind in one eye, we have seen boxers fight with dislocated shoulders ,broken hands ,we have even seen Ricky Burns fight 10 rounds with a broken jaw . Am i saying Brook is like Nick Walters ,not a chance but by calling this a “quit” it really emphisises what the true warriors of the sport are willing to give in the ring .

Brook vs Spence : Big Fight Preview + Prediction

Well guys the Big Fights just keep coming thick and fast in 2017, but this one feels a bit special , as Special Kell Brook gets ready to take on the very highly rated Errol Spence Jnr in Sheffield on Saturday night . This is a fight i have been shouting had to be made for around 18 months , but after Brook took a stab at GGG at middleweight it was suggested he might drop IBF Welterweight crown and move up , but to my relief and excitement he has hung around to take on his manditory challenger infront of 30,000 at his beloved Bramall Lane.

“Defences against guys like Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier doubled with Brook being stabbed in Spain has seen his career stall”

Now i have said before in this blog space that “I used to be high on Kel Brook” in past tense, because Kell Brook (W36/L1/D0 KOs 25) since bringing the IBF strap home after defeating Shawn Porter, has stalled . It has even been suggested that Brook had lost his hunger in the ring. Like most in the the UK, I thought Brook would push on and chase down the biggest fight in the division because he certainly had the talent, but infact the opposite happened. Defences against guys like Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier doubled with Brook being stabbed in Spain,  it has seen his career fail to catch fire the past few years. After trying to mix it at middleweight, Brook is back where he belongs and looks ready to take on the best again, even proving sceptics like myself wrong by making weight relatively easy.

“i think a lot of the stateside pundits maybe underestimating the gulf in class between guys like Algieri and Bundu to Kell Brook”

I’ve sat up and took notice of Errol Spence (W21/L0/D0/kos18)  for a couple of years now . I can remember thinking when i saw him take Chris Algieri apart ,that he reminded me of the Kell Brook of old. Spence does have some genetic advantages over Brook tho like the sheer size of the man, anyone who seen them at the first press conference when the fight had been announced ,couldn’t help notice how big the American was. There is also no questions marks over Spence’s hunger and commitment as he’s been chasing this fight for nearly two years , and i have to admit there did seem a bit of reluctance from the Brook camp to make it even when Spence was ordered as mandatory   . The one thing about Spence tho is he is relatively untested , i think a lot of the stateside pundits maybe underestimating the gulf in class between guys like Algieri and Bundu to Kell Brook , but one thing is for sure by fights end on Saturday night we will see if Spence is the real deal .

Prediction;

I think most people including the two fighters accept this a close 50/50 fight , Brook even suggested he thinks both of them might touch the floor before the fight ends . There are so many unknowns in this fight like , has Brook lost any power coming down to 147lbs again ? He looks very ripped which is a sign of a lean diet .Also no one really knows how Spence will react to  someone actually hitting him back or if his power is as all its cracked up to be . Personally i think this is Spence’s time ,after seeing the lads last few fights i feel he has the  momentum and belief to get the job done , but with how bad some of the judging is in the UK he will need a stoppage to get the win , my money will be on Errol Spence Jnr stoppage rounds 7 to12 for around 10/3 in the bookies .

Canelo vs Chavez :Preview and Prediction

Saturday night will see this years all Mexican, Cinco De Mayo Big Fight night in Las Vegas  when Saul Canelo Alverez takes on fellow Mexican poster boy Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr ,as they battle it out to see who is the “King of Mexico” . For me this years Cinco De Mayo Fight night is special because for the first time in a long time we will have two Mexicans topping the bill and that only seems right for its the Mexicans fans that make this event different from every other big boxing event through the year .Having been in Mexico duruing a gold cup final (Football/Soccer) where they beat the USA,i can honestly say no one does passion for sport like the Mexicans .

“When this fight was first announced , i have to admit i was a little shocked and a bit disappointed”

 Chavez Jnr has been all but retired living the celebrity lifestyle he has always struggled to keep away from . Being the son Mexican Legend Chavez Snr, Jnr has always lacked work ethic and although most fans outside Mexico do realise he has skill most of us feel he‘s got an easy ride from people at the top, such as Mauricio Sauliaman the President of the WBC . Well all the above is true , well that is until Jnr’s last fight against Dominok Britch where he won a convicing points victory. That victory in itself was not really a game changer, as Chavez as per usual struggled with the weight, but what has made me sit up and notice is that Chavez has not came out of training camp since that fight ,to make sure he makes Canelos crazy 164lbs catchweight . If Chavez can make the weight this could be an interesting fight .

“no none knows how Canelo will handle being the smaller man”

Canelo is the other end of the spectrum, the son of an ice cream vendor, Canelo is one of the most dedicated boxers in the game. Canelo also replaced Chavez Jnr as the poster boy in Mexico. When this fight was announced i thought this would be a pushover for Canelo , but after seeing how Jnr is preparing for this fight  , then considering  the size diffrence between the two ,this could end up closer than i had originally thought. No one knows how Canelo will handle being the smaller man, will his power come up with him . In the build up to this fight one thing has become clear, the Mexican people  are divided in there loyalties , also the hatred between these two men makes the build up to Haye/Bellew look like a kids show so we should be set for fireworks .

Predication;

I see this starting off a bit cagey, with both men weary of each others power . Also Chavez must be feeling some effects from dropping so much weight , so a high tempo will not suit him . Chavez will probably take some of the middle rounds , but never really hurting Canelo. The second part of the fight Canelo will force the pace and punish any mistake Chavez makes , with Chavez getting weaker and weaker . One thing we can say about Chavez tho is that he has always had a grant chin and that might just see him take it to the cards. Personally i will be going for a Canelo stoppage from rounds 9-10 .

Fight night Addition ,Please note  : Chavez has made weight  looking drawn in but has said he will be entering at 185lbd , Chavez jnr could be worth a couple of £

Joshua vs Klitschko :Big Fight Preview and Prediction

Well folks its finally here, the biggest Heavyweight title fight in nearly two years will take place this weekend , when Anthony Joshua takes on Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF Heavyweight Title and WBA Super Heavyweight Title , in front of 90,000 at a packed Wembley Stadium , and i cannot wait . I’ve got to admit this fight has took a while to grow on me as in the excitment department  , but now its always there in the back of my mind. I find myself trying too break this one down to pick a winner for hours at a time , and even now after days as i sit down to write this , i don’t know who i am going to pick in my prediction at the end , that can only be a good thing as a boxing fan , something that we don’t get to do to much .

“If he does that on Saturday Night its game over”

I will start off with saying i still view Joshua as a “prospect” and as recent twitter activity has shown, this does offend some people , but i do have reasons for this view which i will outline . Anthony Joshua does not have a top 15 win on his resume so what do we really know about this young man . We know his power is real , i don’t think even the biggest AJ haters could argue against that , but how powerful is AJ after 10-12 rounds of being put under pressure by a credible opponent , no one knows  . Also we have only ever seen AJ being hit once when Dillion Whyte caught him, whilst Whyte himself was hurt , and Joshua’s reaction was poor, his legs stiffened and he moved back in a straight line looking for the safety of the ropes, if he does that on Saturday night its game over . But lets not be to hard on Anthony Joshua here , the reason we don’t know the answer to these questions is he’s been brought along well by Eddie Hearn, and after all the mismatches he is now stepping up to fight one of the best . Klitschko himself backed AJ to go to the top after using him as a sparring partner , and now he’s going to get to see the more matured AJ to see who’s top of the active heavyweights just now .

That night in Dusseldorf Tyson Fury made Klitschko look every bit the 40 year old Wladimir

Klitschko has been a man possesd in becoming top of the pile against since his shock loss to Tyson Fury in 2015 , but Klitschko is in a uphill battle against every boxers most feared rival ….time . That night in Dusseldorf Tyson Fury made Klitschko look every bit the 40 year old , with Wladimir looking slow and reluctant to let his hands go , and now at 41 and with no fights in the last 18 months ,is this fight going to be to much for Dr Steelhammer ? . It’s hard to judge how much we can take from that Fury fight , as Fury is one awkward costomer, just how do you prepare to fight a giant heavyweight who moves like a lightweight . One thing Klitschko has in abundence is experience, this guy has more KO’s that AJ has rounds during his ten year reign as “The Man” and Klitschko isn’t one of these boxers who only train 3 month before a fight , Klitschko is a 24/7 athlete who loves boxing . He may be 41,  but as a heavyweight who’s always in shape and lives the right way,  he may be able the cheat his old foe time for another couple years yet .

Prediction ;

Well i have to admit , i haven’t been looking forward to this part of the preview at all as i am still on the fence . I think Anthony Joshua’s best chance of victory is trying to catch Wlad cold . Joshua has the power to take out anyone and if he goes out and pressures Klitschko from the off , the chances are he will land one of those big shots and that could end Klitschkos night .On the other hand i think the longer this fight goes the more the pendulum swings in Wlads favour . Being a seasoned vetran , i think Wlad is going to try and take AJ to places he’s not had to go to yet in his short career . Whoever wins i don’t see this one going the distance, there is far to much power from both men for it to go to the cards . Now time to pick a winner …………AJ inside 6 rounds …..but that may change before saturday night .
